Beacon is a portable billboard bearing the standard of the Great Lakes as an emblem. Conceived and constructed as part of the “The Retreat” residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Alberta, the structure was constructed entirely out of lightweight cardboard packing materials that could be reasonably carried by two people. To complete the conceptual circuit of our journey from East to West, we took the billboard for a walk in the woods before depositing it in the Bow River as a gesture of good will. Its current whereabouts are unknown.
